For the week of Sunday, April 14, 2019
Dear Members of Pax Christi,
This Sunday, Palm Sunday, begins the holiest week of the year for Christians around the world. We will hear Luke’s account of the Passion of Jesus, and on Good Friday, we will listen to John’s version of the events. We have accounts in the Scriptures of those who pondered the enormous suffering they witnessed in Jesus, and they went away forever changed by this experience. The centurion, who said that he was convinced of Jesus’ innocence (Luke) and that Jesus was indeed the Son of God (Mark), was an affirmation of his faith and conversion of his mind and heart. We have Simon of Cyrene, who could no longer be a bystander, but was drawn in, both physically and emotionally, into the chaotic scene of the Way of the Cross, and would be perpetually impacted by his act of kindness. The women of Jerusalem, drawn into the suffering of one man, heard the words of Jesus to weep not for him, but for their children, for this story will always linger on and be shared by the generations even until today. The eyewitnesses to the Passion of Jesus, transformed by his suffering, have kept the story alive so that we, too, might be changed by the events of twenty centuries ago, and be the filter through which we can make sense of human suffering. Suffering has the potential to bring about transformation, not only for the one suffering, but for the witnesses, those close to the loved one who has endured suffering in his or her life. We can reflect, during these days of watchful awareness of where we are in the crowd, of how we are called to integrate the truths of these days into our lives, and can count on the examples of those we have walked with who have suffered and are suffering, and the lessons of human living that we can learn from them and from the Teacher who has stood as a reminder of the restoration before us.
May your holy week be a blessed one!

PAX CHRISTI COMMUNITY ENDOWMENT FUND
DID YOU KNOW?
• The Pax Christi Community Endowment Fund was established in May 2017 to perpetuate support of our core values. As we approach our second anniversary, the current balance in the Endowment Fund is now over $400,000.
• The concept of endowment aligns closely with our Catholic beliefs. Endowments are charitable funds that are invested, grown, and yield grants to those most in need, in perpetuity. This means they will support good works eternally!
• As Catholics, we are called to use our gifts “as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms” (1 Peter 4:10) to build God’s kingdom on earth. By leveraging the power of endowments, you can live and lead generously, ensuring your Catholic faith and its good works will continue to benefit countless generations to come.
Watch for more information about our second anniversary celebration to be held Saturday and Sunday, June 8 and 9, following all Masses. Please prayerfully consider how you can participate.

MEN'S SPIRITUALITY GROUP BREAKFAST
Friday, May 10, 7:00–8:30am; Room 212
How are parish-based men's groups providing a powerful pathway into the inner life for more and more men? There is growing interest in forming a men's spirituality group here at Pax Christi. You're invited to a gathering of curious and open men from our community that will include a free continental breakfast. Spiritual director Terry Shaughnessy will share his thoughts on forming such a group and what men can expect by participating. Men's groups are a way to develop lasting friendships, and to find a safe way to be non-competitive and vulnerable with other men while deepening spiritual lives. Terry will examine the ways men are challenged to grow in their spirituality as well as how men find support along the way as they stand "shoulder to shoulder" when they gather as an intentional group. Fulfilling and ongoing men's groups don't happen without structures that support a process that enables men to remain engaged. Come spend time with us as we explore masculine spirituality designed around a men's group. There is no fee to attend but please RSVP.
